The ultimate cavalry boots Arriving in Hohne, in '71. me & my mate Jonah were saddled with a Mk 1 432 Ambulance. Our Squadron Leader had a Tac map board and a load of booze installed in the back and it became a combination Command Post/Offrs Mess. Or heroic Squadron Leader, wearing, gum boots, took it upon himself to sit in his little nerve centre sending his squadron hither and yon, whilst continuing an active Mess Life. One night, in during a horrendous storm, the Brigade Commander thrust his way in to the penthouse, demanding to know the call sign of our little oasis of calm. On being told that it was "B" Squadron of the senior light cavalry regiment of the British Army he bellowed "Why aren't you in your f*****g tenk ?" Jonah suddenly found himself in the officer's mess, I, in Recce Troop and we never saw that particular squadron leader again. Gum boots were withdrawn, forthwith and the aforementioned natty, furry numbers you saw became the vogue (brieflly !). Those high heels were a bitch when camming up, I might add !

The ultimate cavalry boots I've just noticed. Those boots must be for an Irish regiment. There's an arrow on the box to show which way to put them on !

Knowing the Regt I find your story totally believable. Regimental Officer's lunches/dinners complete with mess silver during Regtl training on SLA were a regular event.
