I allways aspired to a decent tash. I fancied one of them like wot General Kitchener was sporting. All I ever managed was something like Old Bill !

And sore knees? Ah! The joys of 25 pdr. drill on a gravelly parade ground ! But there was a snippit on TV recently........ when railway tunnels were hi-tech and new, before carriages had lighting, the girls would shove pins in the mouth as protection against any randy male who saw a chance to take advantage of the gloom.

Quite right Gordon ! Nobody's perfect ! Slap on wrist acknowledged !!! Coming to the conclusion that much of the input is worthy of inclusion in a a sort of "General" chat file where all comment, and responses such as mine. won't confuse anyone who latches on to a particular topic in the mistaken impression that the content might relate, in any shape or form, to what's on the heading. It's easy to stray when old age diminishes the attention span ! ........ ...... What were we discussing ??????

Did my gun drill in Boys, Hereford. "Pads, highly bulled toecap, protecting" , would've been much more appreciated in those days !

I only ever came close to some WRAC 'ladies' when visiting the Globetrotter in Aldershot in early 1973. We came out the pub to see a disturbance in the street after last orders. The WRAC ladies were fighting with the male MPs ! Shop windows were kicked in ! I did get along famously though with a young lady RMP at Hohne.

| Big Mal when were you at 7 Armd as I seem to remember a young lady who worked in the QMs department on the families/welfare side. I was at 7 Armd 82-84 - OOPs got the decade wrong in the original post. The young lady in question was in attendance at my MQ March-in, early 82, and kept telling me to refuse it as it was a tip, this I did and ended up with a great MQ, even the SSO, who allocated the quarters, agreed with me after viewing the MQ.
