7 Armoured Workshop, Fallingbostel

Subject: 7 Armoured Workshop, Fallingbostel 17/2/2013, 22:45

Came across a photograph of the entire workshop taken sometime in the middle 60's. I can recognise many of the faces but only a few of the names, all in the Tels section:

Jack Day, Mick Miles, Satch Walton and me of course.

It would be great to hear from anyone in the photograph especially if they have a better memory than me.

Hi John,

I have no recollection of the event and I was there from 0//68 to 07/69, in fact I did my booking out watching the moon landing!

I remember Col Cash was the CO.

I was a Tels Tech and Fred Waters was my Q, he neve did like following route cards!

A bit before my time, I`m afraid.

I don`t recognise any one in the pictures.

But then again I was there from 1977-1981.

What were the blokes at the back stood and sat on, was it a `Mashy` truck?

Can anyone confirm the names of the four 1952 Commer Q4 4x4 3-Ton G.S., Telecom Repair Trucks at 7 Armoured?

Not sure what you mean by names, they only had numbers when I was there up
to the middle of 67.

I found this photo of 3 of them carying out an annual inspection at the Royal Irish
Fusiliers in Celle in November 1963 - that's me claiming ownership to the best one.

The most enjoyable part of driving them was the ability to sway them to impossible
angles going round bends - top heavy you might say.

I seem to remember them being called Mr Volt, Mr Amp, Mr Ohm, and Mr Watt, but that had been painted over. I will try and find my old photo album. I remember Celle, and I remember turning one on its side in deep snow in a forest, and me second in the convoy. Took a day to get me back on four wheels and out. Tyre pressures were 80 psi if I remember and that could cut through anything.

Fallingbostel was great for cab happy people!

Sorry cann't make any significant contribution (my loyalties lie with the rival Minden based 11 Field Workshop)

One name I do recall from this era was the Rugby mad Cornishman, ASM Verschoerann, who I believe took local discharge when his 22 years was up and was reemployed by the Workshop and eventually retired as the Apprentice Foreman/ Meister of the Civilian Work Force

Does any one else remember feeding cheese to the War dogs that patrolled the site. I seem to remember letting the Polish guys (displaced persons) in for a warm up, especially when there was a new Guard Commander having a kip and encouraging the dogs to lick his ears, at 2 am usually got a good response.

Just found this site. I was a welder at the 7th Armoured Workshop, Fallingbostel circa 1959-61. Many happy memories of my time there.
