Warendorf 1948

Warendorf about 28 ks East of Münster. Up to 1945 the Wehrmacht Barracks North of the town housed the German Army Remount Depot/ Horse Husbandry/Riding School - horses were an important part of the Reichs freight and transport system. (Wehrkreis-Reit- und Fahrschule VI Warendorf)

On the weekend 28/29 Sep 46 the resident British formation organised a Horse Show and Gymkhana there - IWM reference LBY BAOR 241 contains the details (document is not online).

In 1957 - after a refurb perhaps, the Bundeswehr moved their Sport School in to the Barracks (http://www.wn.de/Muensterland/Kreis-Warendorf/Warendorf/2017/02/2688826-60-Jahre-Sportschule-der-Bundeswehr-in-Warendorf-Bekenntnis-zum-Standort)
where they have been for 60 years, training sport instructors and operating a sport trauma hospital

The formation was HQ 22 Armd Bde command 7 Armd Div arrived in Warendorf 19 Jul 46, relieving 4 Armd Bde direct command 1 Corps District, redesignated 7 Armd Bde 1 Jan 47 moving to Bad Lippspringe 20 Sep 48, not in barracks but in requisitioned accommodation to the south of the town
