I am looking for information on my father's family and their time abroad. It was his father who was a member of the BAOR from about 1951 to 1957, and by that time a Major I think. The Wightwick family (my grandparents, my father and his three younger siblings) were in Detmold and then in the Hook of Holland.
This is what my mother wrote, in a piece about my father's life:
C’s father re-joined the Army and was posted to Holland and Germany as part of the British Army of the Rhine. In Germany, they were posted to Detmold. Hitler’s Gauleiter (Mayor) was still in charge there. They lived in a very large German house, sturdily built with memorably effective central heating compared to the freezing English houses. They then lived in the Hook of Holland where C’s father was Adjutant (41 Garrison).
