Try to find my father Empty
PostSubject: Try to find my father   Try to find my father Icon_minitime11/8/2008, 16:07

Dear Sirs,

my name is Gaby Müller, I´m 42 years old and from Hamm(Germany). I´m the daughter of Gisela Müller who was in a realtionship with a British Army member (stationed in the Crmwell Barracks) in the beginning 60th. The name of my father is Mr. Charles Derek Walter Batty. I have one brother, he is 47 years old and his name is Michael Walter. I´m not sure if you could help me, but the only thing I have found on google was your name.

Mr. Batty went back to UK before I was born and now I´m on my way to find out if he is still alive. I don´t want to look for any payments or stuff like this!! I only want him to know that he has a German daughter.

That´s all a bit difficult because the British Goverment and the British Army don´t give away any information about British Army Members.

So hopefully you have any informations for me. Please excuse me to disturb you, but this situation is absolutely new for me , I found it out last Wednesday!

Thanks a lot for reading my lines!!

Kindest regards

Gaby Müller

If your natural father (Mr Batty) is still alive, it is possible that he is receiving an Army Pension. If that is the case, you could try writing a letter to him writing his full names on the envelope. Enclose that letter in an envelope addressed to: Paymaster, Sutherland House, Russell Way, Crawley, RH10 1UH with another letter asking them to forward your letter. I can't guarantee that this will work, but it might.
The other option is to make similar contact with the Army Records Office in Glasgow. I'll get you that address later.

Do you have any idea what cap badge he wore.

Cromwell Barracks was basically home to only two units in its time, and one of those was only there for a short time.

That is truly sad. If Gaby can get hold of a copy of the death certificate, it will show who reported the death and where the man lived when he died. There might be other relatives that are also related to Gaby? Assuming she wants to find them of course.

Mein herzlichstes Beileid Gaby.

I know a lot of people whos father left Germany without knowing they had a child. Others chose to leave in a hurry and others yet again just got posted and things turned out the wrong way.

Either way - I hope you find some peace with this information.

its certainly a shock..i was only trying to find any info on my fathers millitary service and came across this.

we knew some of the info gabby had about her brother and mum...but its still a shock.

im in contact with gaby and gonna check some pictures out but its far too coincidental for it not to be the right person.

the names,dates,people,every thing is exact.

its a really nice surprise and goes to show that websites like this one are very good and can work.
