| This topic has nothing to do with BAOR, but knowing the knowledgeable people here I am sure I will get an answer The topic will be deleted again later. 1. Are there any DVD players for the troops in Afghanistan? 2. If so, what region do they come under; Region 5 or the Region the troops come from (1 for Canadian/US troops, 2 for British/European troops, etc) Paul. | |

| Paul,
Yes there are DVD players in theatre, however they are limited to troops that are based in permanant locations such as Bastion, Kandahar and some of the bigger FOB's and Patrol Bases. Guys will take their own DVD players out and also units will have their own provided by PRI and various unit welfare funds. Almost all players will be region 2 but no doubt some will be multi region allowing disks from all sorts of sources to be played.
As you can imagine the blokes who are on constant patrols and are out on OP's will get very little time to indulge in film watching, this is mainly done by the blokes in support roles who are stuck in said places.
As I said the Brits will have region 2 with a lot being multi region.
The yanks will have region 1.
Hope this helps. | |

It does help, thank you. I have edited the quote to the bits I was interested in. The reason I asked is that my eldest daughter had a clear out of DVD's. I have not looked at them properly yet, but when I do I was thinking that some may have been of use to the troops out there. When I have a look, and check the regions, I will come back to this one. If they are of no use for some reason (not fitting/not required), I will try and find a rep for a Service Charity/Help for Heroes/etc., to give them to. Paul.

| All this crap about `regions` on DVD players is a bit of a con.
I bought some DVD`s that were region 1 and therefore a lot cheaper than the UK region 2 versions. If you google your DVD player you can get a code to turn your player into an all regions version which means you can play DVD`s from any where and it costs nowt.
