Snow clearing. That always brings to mind Minden and the eve of a full bull RSM's drill parade, We had spent weeks in practice drill and dress rehearsals. It was to be the parade of the year.
(well those RSM's were simple souls and had to be allowed the occasional pleasure)
At about 1600 on the eve of the parade it began to snow, this brought out all the defaulters with broom and shovel to keep the snow off the square. (The RSM had shouted at it but it ignored him) anyway long to short. It blew a real blizzard with the result that the whole regiment, officers and all were out shovelling snow 'til about midnight when it finally dawned on the Razza that despite our best efforts the snow was falling faster than it could be cleared and his drill parade wasn't going to happen. It was tough being a soldier of the 60's

I, too, still get flashbacks to the days of dixie bashing. That never ending parade of greasy pans and no hot water.
A variation on "Wrinkles"'s tale of woe. Nienburg, the square surrounded by trees which had a nasty habit of dropping their leaves in the Autumn.
One windy day, the RSM (He of the towering intellect), became irritated by the great drifts of leaves blowing around on his square. Summoning the hapless NCO i/c Fire Piquet he decreed that all the leaves be cleared up. So there we were, for hours piling up leaves only to watch the bloody wind distribute them all round the area again.
This at a time when they were trying to get the NS men to sign on with the Regulars. Not many did !
