Hohne camp

Probably the best place I was ever posted, or a very close second to Berlin.

My father told me he and others from the regiment had to remove the Swastika from the building when they were posted there. They lived opposite the roundhouse at the time.

Somebody said on the site why didn't they use it for a mess, why when you have Schloss Brederbeck over the road, a very grand building indeed. Though spoilt by some idiots residing in the place.

I lived in MB7 and MB10, we had a grand lifestyle there, some great memories and times.

i hated it, i liked herford, gutted i missed hong kong, couldv joined up earlier but i wasnt sure if id like army life.
im still gutted i came out to early.

I was over that way last year Mal, it's all looking very sophisticated now. I was hoping to pop in to the Snake Pit to top up my tattoo.

We (QOH) were sentenced to Caen Bks 70/71.

The only bar I can remember around the camp, was opposite the Cloggy gate, I'm pretty sure that was called the Astra Bar.

Schloss Bredebeck was being redecorated, before we moved out on exercise I had to guard the place for a 24 hour period. That night I never slept. That night I never moved from my little room.

My MQ was in Mozart Str ,Bergen.

I had a pad in Mozart Strasse.
I remember going down to the big church owned pond at the bottom to feed the fish, well, it was supposed to be the ducks and geese but the fish were that big they would scare the birds away to eat the food themselves.
Some of the fish were able to take a whole slice of bread at once.
It would have made a good fishing pond

What was the name of that gastatte-type place down there ? I want to say "Wienerwald" but can't be sure.

Nothing wrong with being a nut strangler, was one myself and did all right, ended up as boss of lots of nut stranglers and other trades. Was in Hohne 71-72 with the QOH and Fally 82-84 with 7 Armed.

I went back to Fally in `84 with 2 RTR.
I actually like Fally, and would love to go back some day.

Re .16th infantry workshops R.E.ME Minden. Your date records are wrong .I was posted to 10th armourd workshops reme Minden in june .1957 ,it became 16th infantry workshops some time beteewn late 1958 --early 1959 and was still16th inf. when i left late september 1959 . John one of your contributers mentions parading on the square to comemorate the battle of minden 1757 ,i to was on that parade ,we all wore a piece of white card behind are cap badges to remember the white roses the triumpant troops wore in that battle of 1757 .
I serverd in A platoon which main funtion was forward repair using the international half tracks to replace engines /gearboxes ect .
I to swam in the emergency water tank that jonh mentions , it was only used as a pool in one long heat wave in the time i was in the unit .

I also had a pad on Mozart strasse, before that in private on the Rundestrasse opposite side of the duck pond to Mozart.

The locals used to iceskate on the duck pond in winter in the 70s.

Yes, i`ve seen them do that.
Not for me though, i`d have found a thin bit, gone through to find Jaws waiting for me.
There were some huge fish in that pond.
You knew when they were about as even the ducks cleared off out of the way.
There were even some Goldfish in there, no doubt donated by departing squaddies.
