Gents,
I'm having a nightmare placing units into barracks/lines in Hohne. Can anyone help?

First - where are the barrack boundries?

Second - did any of these barracks contain two major units?

Third - it is no secret that there are now three major units there, opposed to the four that were there before. Is this because 32 Eng takes up quite a bit of space?

Forth - 32 Engineers went from Hohne to Munsterlager and back. Any exact dates and did they take up the same lines as they had had before?

Fith - Which other HQs were here before 22 and 7 Bde's?

Sixth- Anyone got any Anadin?

Phil.

Hi bud
Firstly great site, my memories are flooding back, as I am still serving and have served at Herford Harewood Bks, Wolfenbuttel Northampton Bks and Hohne Haig Bks where I currently reside now. Im a 9/12th Lancer and will gladly help fill in any gaps you have.

Hi! I have only just joined this site and am delighted to see so much about Hohne where I served on two occassions, however I don't see a reference to the time when it was the home of the RAC schools. As such it was a sort of mini Bovingto/Lulworth. The schools took up a very small part of the camp and the remainder was a Jewish refugee camp. The schools closed in 1948/49 and the refugee camp shortly afterwards

Which Camp/Barracks was it, jimpau.

If you look here:-

http://baor-locations.com/hohnecollective.aspx

There is mention of both RAC and RA Training establishments

Paul.

Hi! Paul,
I have looked at the sight you suggested and yes, the RAC Gunnery wing is shown ,but that is a newer establishment than the original RAC School which also housed a D&M and Wireless wing. I can't remember the Block numbers which we occupied, but they were the ones nearest to what was the main gate -which was later called the something else. We didn't use the main gate as such but had a small log cabin situated close to the first barrack blocks which was the sentry post furnished with a table a couple of chairs and was heated by a coak-burning stove as were some of our barrack rooms. There was the ubiquitous red and white barrier of course.I can't say how many blocks were used but I think they extended to about where the 8th QRI hussars were later billetted. Oh! by the way the camp was not called Hohne then but Bergan/Belsen.

Hi,
If anyone can produce a map/plan of Hohne, I could probably add the Units as they were in '77-'79.

I was at Hohne from January to December 1960. At that time it was 4RTR, 26 Armd Eng Sqn., QRIH, and 45 Regt RA. 14/20 Hussars took over from 4RTR in Jan 1961.
