Units, Regiments, Barracks, Locations etc.

I there are many out there who have knowledge of where Unit/Regiment Barracks/Locations where, anytime from 1945 onwards, that are not on the main site.

Do you know of anyone who may have details who is not part of the site? Get them to join in, or extract the information from them - by fair means or foul - and post it please

No matter how small the piece of info, it will all add to the bigger picture. So if anybody can crank up the cogs in the grey matter and remember anything, get it listed so that Philip can add to what is already there.

Considering that it is only 12 months from the start of the site, there is a mass of info there already. Let us see if we can add more, especially as more and more areas are closing down.

Naming of barracks
JPW and myself have worked it out normally the first unit to occupy barracks will have named it IE
Albuhera Barracks Rendsburg - 1st Battalion Middlesex Regiment (battle honour)
Northumberland Barracks Menden - 3rd (West Riding) Reconnaissance Regiment (8th Northumberland Fusiliers)
West Riding Barracks - Dortmund 69th (West Riding) Field Regiment RA
St David's Barracks Hilden - 53rd (Welsh) Infantry Division
Have been puzzled with Epsom Barracks Iserlohn before 1948 Googled 'Epsom Army' bingo!
1st Battalion (City of London) Royal Fusiliers were formed in Epsom

Err............., sorry Steve but how do you make that one out? It is true that the Royal Fusiliers where founded on the south bank of the River Thames back in 1685, but not in Epsom. Lord George Legge, the Earl of Dartmouth found the Fusilier regiment in 1685. The regiment became the 7th Regiment of Foot Royal Fusiliers and in 1751 became a 'Royal' regiment. At that time Epsom was known as a spa town, so sorry m8.

Not me Google...my reason there was a nobody recorded in Epsom Barracks Iserlohn until Apr 48...if the records are correct 153rd Infantry Brigade formed Jul 46 part of 53rd (Welsh) Infantry Division from Feb 47 becoming 2nd Infantry Division...1st Battalion (City of London) Royal Fusiliers are recorded elsewhere as Aldershot Barracks Iserlohn but there was no room as HQ I (BR) Corps District were still there until Jun 47…so until proved otherwise have put them in Epsom for their arrival from UK and joining 153rd Infantry Brigade
