| I have just added the REME capbadge to my avatar and looking at it reminds of the little ditty we used to go with it.
You work like a horse You are chained to your job You go like lightening To crown it all you have dropped a bollock |

| Liked your little ditty. I heard it as
Work like a horse Move like greasd lightning and if you drop a bollock you get put in chains......
Nothing mentioned about the Crown ... But it's good.
Ah the good old days |

| Hi Jock,
Good times and memories.
Except when I think of things like lying on your back under a Bedford in a snowdrift on Hoehne ranges or lifting a 432 power pack in the middle of the night.
Cheers |

| Didn't it go as:
REME once REME twice You want that truck to get you home to-night BE NICE
Usually a case of Carlsberg or any local brew was well appreciated if memory serves me right.
Put a C in the REME (RCEME) to explain my lesson as taught to me. Also when it was -25c and that space heater in your 3/4 TUV was N/S and you were looking at 2 weeks of winter training with no heat except for a lantern and this greased stained, over worked hero showed to repair it AND had the spare parts needed. Yes a hero in my little world deserving a bottle of the finest. |

| There are various versions of the rhyme about, the one I remember is a mix of the first two, but with the same general meanings.
I did hear one about the our Australian colleagues, but it is a long time ago and I cannot remember any of it at all.
Spent 6 weeks on exercise, from Hong Kong, with 7th (DEO) Gurkha Rifles in Brisbane (Enoggera Camp), enjoyed every minute of it, especially when the money ran out and most of the vehicles were handed back. I still have a map somewhere of the training area around Canungra(??).

| Just for you Boy's
Workshop's
In forty two they formed the R.E.M.E., They combed the army for the dreamy, For the lazy and the lame, For the men who had no shame.
From far and near in herds they came, To add to REME Workshops fame, And now they daily swing the lead, In workshop, billet and sickbed.
Their diseases spread to other ranks, Especially those employed in tanks, Experienced scroungers like the rest, With these men this Corps is blessed.
But when the time comes when you’re in need, The REME boys will act with speed, They'll swing a hook and not the lead, Transport a tank on a flatbed.
Jack up your jeep, change a tire, Fix your scout car with bailing wire, Jump with Paras - ride with tanks, And never ask you for your thanks.
So good luck REME, here's three cheers, In ninety two, it's fifty years.
To Lofty Meadows, a good friend.

| Just a part of it, comprised of over 600 cap badges, 120 helmet plates, plus the collection of helmets, shakos etc. Unfortunately now gone, was offered a good price for the whole shebang and took advantage of the offer .. now I wish I had kept it .. I had a superb set of Victorian Light Infantry badges, see them below Len (Ciphers) |
