BAOR ROAD MAP

ChrisP reminded me of one occasion in Duisburg. I had joined the RCT TA after leaving regular service and the advance party had travelled from Rotterdam to Duisburg under the command of one of our Regular PSI's, an SSM who boasted he could find any RCT barracks in BAOR. We were swanning around Duisburg for about 30 mins before we found the barracks and as my vehicle entered the camp area the SSM was seen paying off a civvy taxi-driver!!
Cost him a few beers in the Mess that night I can tell you.

dandc certainly not like i said it was only the driver airframes that cocked it up and it ended up wtih us groundies sorting it out for them as usual, mainly they could not even find a decent pub

oh yeah and worst of all mainly the young officers could not even find an imbiss, first thing on scheme was find a decent imbiss in case the cooks cocked it up again

when did the cook not cock it up.[everyone lined up for dinner,the ssm going ape,right you lot who called the cook a c**t,some wag at the back, who called the c**t a cook] dont know if thats urban myth or not,but this did happen,somewhere in the back of beyond the cook was dishing up breakfast,the oc said to cook, cpl summers take those gloves off,2 mis later he said put them back and see me later,he was minging.

yeah i can remamber one exercise when we deployed form topcliffe with 666 Sqn the cook gave us all in stew for everymeal for nearly a week, then he went back early, as his wife was due to give birth, and as he was leaving he siad i have done lunch lads, guess what all in stew again if he was not in a rover driving off we would have killed him, even the oc was not impressed

I still have mine from 1989 showing the DDR border, on my office wall as a constant reminder of the "good ole" days. Visitors are always fascinated by how it looked back then compared to now.

I did have a post border BFG road map but donated it to an exhibition of British in Germany
