You are correct there hardrations. When we had a corporals club do one of the German wives always made the potato salad and Frickadellen. Much better than the bought ones.

whats the chances of passing on that recipe then?so we can all enjoy some authentic German potato salad....!!!!

Yeh we call it home and away. Got a bottle some time back. Conny onny butties! Lovely as a kid but the thought just makes me sick now. Any place of work worth their salt put a can in the tea urn back in the days. Didn't need sugar or milk then.

If I knew then what I know now I probably wouldn't have dentures.

the 24 hour ration packs used to have a toothpaste-type tube, filled with condensed milk.

I too was introduced to potato salad in Germany and thought it was the bees knees untill my wife made some as part of a buffet lunch for a family gathering..
The secret is to use the proper potatoes and make your own mayo which must be seasoned properly..

Additions like a little finley chopped apple and onion and a little cayen pepper make a mouth wattering dish..Can be eaten with anything, as my gut will testify

A touch of dry mustard also if I remember correctly, and a good quality Bockwurst (which having a large German population in Wpg. makes it possible) and quality rye bread.

You mentioning the size of the German population in Wpg reminds me that there was a large Canadian/German club there which we frequently visited when in Wpg for the weekend from Shilo. once inside you could have been in a beerhall in Germany complete with oompha band, great beer,food and girls - happy days(nights).
