Mary,

It was quite easy to figure out that your Mother was Anke - Gumm is not a common name and the fact that Stuart married a Anke Altoff (obviously a German name). Birth, Marriage & Death Records are easily available.

Family Help - Stuart Gumm Captur10

I would however urge some caution in making contact direct with the person you believe to be your Father. It may be that the Stuart Gumm in the previous threads is not your Father and unsolicited contact could cause him and his family some problems! Also, not knowing your family background there may be some 'history' which means he may not wish any contact.

It may be wise to use an intermediary. If you know of no-one then I would suggest contacting West Sussex Family Services and ask if they are able to help.

http://www.westsussex.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=9514 Contact details on right of page.

Although I was in Churchill Bks at the same time, it is not likely that I knew him other than by face (there were a lot of guys there).

By the way we cannot seem to find your Father's birth - was he born in England/Wales or elsewhere?

Hope this helps.

and you know his mother's maiden name was James.
not sure about writing to four different address's, I would try and confirm the correct one first, you don't want to cause upset to someone who turns out to be a stranger.

forget the Martin one, the age wouldn't match,
he would've been 13 when he married your mum, so that's a non starter sorry.

I think there are only 2 Stuart Gumms that could be correct and that both reside in West Sussex - I believe that my suggestion that you contact someone there may still be best. You now know he was born 1966 so it would be easy for someone there to check which of them is approx 45 years of age.
You have nothing to lose by contacting Family Services - if they can't help they may be able to advise you.

You mentioned your Grandparents in a previous thread - any idea where they are or whether they can help you?

Mary, as dagian says, you have nothing to loose by contacting Family services or as I suggested the local police community officer, they are there to help.

'Doing nothing is not an option' a wise man once said.

If you really want to contact your Father you must do something - this Forum can only advise you but cannot establish the contact.

A few other ideas:

Royal British Legion
http://www.escis.org.uk/Entry/View/Royal_British_Legion,_County_Office/7341

SSAFA
http://www.iwestsussex.co.uk/profile/83355/Arundel/S-S-A-F-A-Forces-Help/

Salvation Army
http://www.worthingsalvationarmy.org.uk/

It costs nothing to ask these organisations if they can help. If you don't feel confident to do it yourself then ask a friend or relative.
Please let us know if you are successful in re-establishing contact. Good luck.

Just came across this by searching for Stuart Gumm.

I don't know him but he's just been removed from a Royal Signals Facebook group for some horrible comments.

I have a couple of links to share but apparently I'm not allowed to for 7 days?
