I served in Osnabruck from 1984 up to 1987.
I was stationed in Scarborough Barracks serving in 2 Sqn Royal Signals
attached to RAF Osnabruck a detachment from RAF Gutesloh.
One course I did was that of unit projectionist. Eventually I
offered my service to the SSKC cinema The Globe Cinema on Sedan strasse.
For nearly three years I was the No1 projectionist there showing films
several times a week. Along side me were other projectionists one person I trained in
was a fella Ex RMP forgot his name only thing I do remember about him for sure was he had the
word MONKEY tattoted on the inside of his lower lip. Another lad was an RCT fella called Clem.
The Cinema manager I can't recall his name only he was a S/Sgt in the RE.
Did you ever work on those projectors in the projection suite at the Globe.

Talking of being projectionists Advent. Were you paid a wage for doing the job?I would wonder why the SKC aka SSKC would not employ their own staff or was it a case of everything on the cheap. We did pay to get in to the cinemas. Wink

Old age getting in my woodwork.
The AKC did eventualy become the SKC
Gentlemen your correct SSKC is wrong.
I got confused SSVC (Services Sound and Vision Corparation)
with the SKC infact they are or were run by the SSVC.

Yes we projectionist were paid and relived of unit duties
the weeks we were working in the cinema.
I have a tankard I received on leaving the Globe in Osnabruck March 1987.
I can't find a way of posting the image up apart from the likes of photbucket and flickr

I think it was Mark Paige ( BFBS Radio ) who used to call SSVC the Sid Sausage Video Club.

This Mark Paige obviously came in long after I left BAOR.
He sounds about as popular as the universally-detested Richard Astbury who plagued us in the 70s.

Richard Astbury was followed by someone called ........ Nankervill ( Nankers old horse ). SSTV Corportion wasn't set up to transmit TV images untill about mid 1977. Some fella called Steve Martin was one of the continuity presenters. Later on early 1990s Steve Martin became a news presenter on Sky news.
