Gents,

I don't know if this has been posted here previously. I couldn't find it, but thought it would be of interest to everyone especially for our foreign friends. It lays out all of the changes and reductions through which the British Army will have to suffer over the next 8 years. Very informative.

Cheers,
Dan.

PS: Didn't the world go through a 'Save the Argylls' about 40 years ago?

Yes Dan M, I was part of that campaign to save my regiment. The people of Scotland voted to retain the regiment by signing the petition. The Tories came into power and we were saved. In 1969-70 everyone in the battalion was interviewed in relation to re badging. We had three options to pick from. Some of the lads decided to leave the army altogether and the rest of us all went to our new units.I went to another Scottish regiment and did a tour of Belfast before heading off to Singapore as part of the ANZUK force. When news came that the Argylls were being reformed I was in an ambush position somewhere in Malaya on exercise and I heard over the radio that we were heading back to Scotland to reform the battalion. That news was welcomed by the majority of us. Some of the lads stayed with the new unit as they had experienced re badging before when they were in the Cameronians which were disbanded in 1968 and came to us.This interference in our careers by governments and the MOD did not help us to complete our twenty two years service as we had had enough of wearing different uniforms and of being mucked about.

Do you have Adobe? A basic read-only version is available for free. The document can't be opened with Word.

Thanks for the story. Factoring the costs of moving the personnel required to reduce than expand the regiment over a one year period, the government probably spent more money then they would had they left the regiment be.

Cheers,
Dan.

Hi Steve, Many thanks for the link.Downloaded the adobe reader and gained access to the website.Yes I must agree a very interesting piece of information.I hope that the terrorists and commies haven't got access to it as it will assist their planning for their activities in the future. What is it with this country that it feels the need to tell everyone what they will be doing.I know the withdrawal from Germany needs to go through and that new barracks etc will need to be built in order to facilitate those units returning or in the case of some units disbandment. The UK will need to cut back a great deal in their commitments to police the world as they have done in the past.Should the Falklands kick off again we will not be in a position to carryout another task force similar to 1982 or perhaps we could tell the Argentinians to wait until the two large aircraft carriers are built then we might just muster up enough reservists to go down and persuade them to leave.
