confused I have been a visitor to the forum for quite awhile,In 1961 I was 6 years old and travelled with my mother from the north east via Harwich to Germany. As a child i found the experiense exsiting but on arrival at a railway station near Minden we were met by 2 miserable and arkward M.P.'s , who informed my mother that my father was away on manouvers and would not be with us for a week. My mother was a calm person normaly but not that day,the M.P.'s took us to a grotty old hotel next to a bridge over a canal, where they were told to get my father to the hotel or put us on a plane back to England. My father arrived that evening with a 24 hr pass ,the problem i have for this part of my long winded post is the name of the area the hotel was in the barracks near the hotel and the regiment my father was attatched to, he was in the ACC.
My memory is not as sharp as it was and i am trying to create a journal for my family about my life as an army brat.
Thanks

Don't worry about the failing memory, we all suffer from that to a greater or lesser extent lol!

Do you have any idea which Regiment your father was attached to? There were in the region of seven barracks complexes in the Minden area, si if you had an idea of the Regiment, it could help.

Paul.

Hi Paul,we were in Germany from 1961 to 1966 starting in Minden then Schloss-Nuerhaus, Salzkotten, Paderborn, Rydt and Rhinedalen. During this time the only regiments I remember are the Signals and a transport type regiment,Centurion tanks and a Salidin that took me to a school somewhere. scratch

With a quick look about, and purely my own thoughts, The Centurions could have belonged to the 17th/21st Lancers. They were in Schloss Neuhaus at some stage, but I cannot find any dates.

211 Signal Squadron was in Minden for a time but, again, I do not have dates.

Could the Transport types have been M.S.O? There were a few around those areas.

Paul.
