I wasn't around during war time, but my parents and grand parents were around them. Strange how she is still soldiering on as it were, aged 97. Cannot be that many WW2 types around now. Soon be like all those World War one vets who slowly shuffled off their perches, many of them into their early 100 years of age.

Excepting HM the Queen, and the old geezer, Phil the Greek.....!!

Ah yes! Exciting times for a young lad........... days I remember more clearly than many others. And the only time I ever came under enemy fire. L uftwaffe targeted me with a 200 kg thing which landed 40 yards away, tore off the roof, blew in doors & windows. Uniforms everywhere, Spam & powdered egg when you were lucky, Glenn Miller on American Forces Network, B17 crashed in local park, great days to practice aircraft recognition...... and probably times which honed my interest in military pursuits.
