Does anyone know the future of Munster yet? I know that it is due to close in the near (or maybe not so near) future, but can anyone deliberate?

Hi
Münster is due to close about 2012-ish. However the word is that it could still be around till 2015.

Eskimo, I dont think that is correct. Check out Google Earth with search question, Münster - Gremmendorf. Buller Barracks is now a housing estate. They didnt even keep the Parade ground as a Carpark......lol

Look here http://www.westfaelische-nachrichten.de/wna/lokales/muenster/nachrichten/?em_cnt=95852&

2014 at the earliest.

Never heard of Dennis,Simpson or Wyverne Barracks and i have been here since 1991.

The old Loddenheide complex is now a business park. And the only remaining building from the camp is the garrison church.

Dennis Bks are in Munsterlarger. 32nd Armoured Engineer Regt. were there in the late 70's
The Devon & Dorsets Battalion Headquarters are located within Wyvern Barracks in Exeter UK. I have also found a mention of a Wyvern Bks. in Lüneburg and 24 Missile Regt were stationed there in the llate 1950's early 60's

Only just found the site and found it enjoyable. Sad to hear that Buller Barracks is no more. For the record 1LI were in Buller Barracks from 1981 - 1984. I think we followed the Gloucestershire Regiment, but no one followed us, at least not immediately. The Barracks was handed over empty as our BAOR role (Airmobile) went to 2LI in Deilinghofen

The only two Barracks left in Munster are, Oxford Barracks for the Armoured Infantry, at Present 1 Scots Guards.

York Barracks for the Tank Regiment, RDG.

Oxford Barracks is being taken over as a Mechinised Camp for a Mechinised Battalion this Year as 1SG are moving back to the UK.

Great City and Great Posting (well,Next to spending 2 years in Wavel Barracks, Berlin) 1990-1992 with 1st Bn Irish Guards.

All i know about her was that she had a tattoo on her arm with BAOR on it, which i guessed she got for being born on an army camp. Please if anyne knoews of her or my grandad please leave me a note. I would like to meet my mom if she's still alive before my 21st birthday as i am heading off to join the army. Thanks for your time. her name was heather canovan

I was stationed at York Barracks (Gremmendorf) from 1952 - 1954 while serving with the Royal Signals. At that time it was HQ 20th Armd Bde, 6 Armoured Div. The resident armoured regt was 17/21 Lancers who were equipped with Centurions, and of course Brigade HQ to which I was attached. I did a total of 16 years with both Regular Army and TA, but always considered my best time was at 20 Armd Bde., we were worked bloody hard as it was at the height of the Cold War and 6 Armoured Div had just been reformed as part of our NATO presence and with 7 Armoured Div, 11 Armoured and 2 Infantry Divisons formed 1 Corps .. Great memories of a super bunch of guys and a terrific unit .. wish I could roll back the clock.

Ciphers, I was also in HQ 20 Armd Bde, but by that time ('72) it was based in Detmold at Hobart BKS and part of 4 Div.

I had the best time at 20 Bde, Shiny 20, fantastic posting

Jim, I guess by that time the Brigade Flash was the White Mailed Fist mounted on a Blue background as it is today. As we were part of the old 6 Armoured Division our flash was a White mailed Fist on a Black background .. we were known to all and sundry as the "Brothel Knockers". My site at www.len.certacito.org.uk shows some photo's of the Brigade as well as 'W' Troop which was the Brigade HQ Signals Troop. I'm the stroppy looking bugger front row seated on the right.

I was a shiny arse Staff Clerk at 33Ord Company, RAOC Winterbourne Barracks, Munster-83 through 85. The lads were great and the accommodation was absolutely appalling. The showers deposited a rusty coloured trickle: though after a week on exercise it seemed to be better than nothing!
A posting to NATO Int in Holland was very welcome after 2 years in that former SS Supply Depot and its good to know the barracks were closed in the 1990's.

Hi Jim,
I recently joined raoconline and saw ur posts, been showing my 5 year old son his dad's army pics-have got 3 Ord Btn June 1984, Dorbaum and decided to relive some happy (Grolsch swamped!) memories. Very Happy

Staff Clerks were Cpl Webber(Plymouth?) 33ord cc
Lcpl Shepherd
Lcpl Cooke and others the grey cells cant recall

Lcpl Nauyokas (Nooky, 'Bad Lads Army' fame-infamy?) was a driver and pti/mti back then. He took great delight in showing everyone a pic of his missus in her skimpies, mind you she was hot!

SSgt Tarr was a great bloke and excellent CSM (well he is a fellow taff) The previous CSM had been a bit naughty. Major Wyborn took over as oc from Major Laird? And former Staff Clerk WO1 Reid was by then a Lieutenant, Admin Officer at 33 I think.

Regards Steve
