Has anyone ever heard of Milne Barracks in Krefeld?

A reference found gives a year of 1952.

Paul.

Hi Paul
Possibly the Wiltshire Regiment barracks as there is a google ref to a Lt General Milne who gave a mention in dispatches to the Bandmaster of that regiment in late 40s
From my distant 70s memory there was the remains of a barracks on the way to Bradbury Barracks in Krefeld hopefully a former 16 Sig Regt member can help
Regards
Steve

There was definitely a Milne Barracks in the area in the early 1950s.

The RMPs could have been stationed there but I am not sure of that.

That could be one for "Redcap" to have a look at.

PostSubject: More information required   Krefeld Barracks - names Icon_minitime5/2/2010, 14:16

Unfortunately, I have been unable to place where Milne Barracks may have been at the present time. But more questions have arisen.

In conection with a heap of photographs I put on the main site with regard to 606 MCTG, the same person has sent me some more photographs, yet to be uploaded.

He raises the point that there was a Barracks complex that 606 moved from, in Krefeld, to Bradbury Barracks in 1968. He is relatively sure that they were at Werner-Voss Strasse 23. Part of the messgae sent is shown below.

As to the barracks Werner-Voss-Strasse 23 I found out (new Krefeld town plan and Google Earth) the whole area has been rebuilt since my last time in Krefeld, 1970.

But no doubt, the barracks lay at the corner of Werner-Voss-Strasse / Emil-Schaefer-Strasse, as shown on the map below. The street "Am Badezentrum" didn't exist at my time, it was part of Werner-Voss-Strasse then.
One wall ran along the Werner-Voss-Strasse, another along Emil-Schaefer-Strasse (my remembrance on this last name is rather vage, though). Where the walls met, the Main Gate opened to Werner-Voss-Strasse. But I have no remembrance of a single building on the map, they are all new to me.

He also says that Emil-Schaefer Strasse led to a Barracks that contained MCLG personnel.

But, there is another area on Werner-Voss Strasse that look as though it could have been a Barracks complex. On Google Earth, it is to the north of the location mentioned above, and is bounded on the west by Werner-Voss Strasse and to the north by the Europaring.

Do any of our Krefeld experts have any ideas please?

Paul.

Let me add some further information which I found while studying the estate papers of my father. His sister had been employed at milne barracks in 1963 as clerc. She died already in 1996.

I found the original permanent pass to permit the entrance ( BAOR Form 360 ) issued at the 22. April 1963 and valid till 31.12.1963 by a Major RASC , Camp commandant Milne Barracks. I include the image of that passport with his signature. Beside that document I found no papers regarding her working over there.

Sorry that I have no information regarding the location of the barracks at that time as I left Krefeld after my Abitur in 1964.

Karl
