Ref the photo. The person front row 3rd from right is Alan Kersh. I showed him this photo and he recognises quite a few faces but like most of us at this age will take some time for names to come back.
But this raises a small problem. You say that this was taken in summer 56, at that time both he (and myself, I am ex REME) were at 12 Inf Wksp REME, Ipoh, Malaya. A long way to come back to get in a photo.
Have you got the dates right? He queried dates but the fact that he hasn't got a tattoo on his arm coincides with the 55 date, as he got that done after Blandford whilst at Barton Stalag on a fitters course. I was at Blandford in Jan 56, remember it well, Sgt Warrington was our Sgt and he was , I think, Pipe Major of the pipes and drums band and used to play his chanter and pipes in his little room at the end of the block till early morning.
Have you seen all the REME photos on Flickr, put on by Jeff, also ex REME. He collects all/any REME photos and has dozens if not well over a hundred or so. We, that is ex 12 Inf Wksp, have a photo (1956) on there and a message forum. So far only eight or so in touch. We were the young sprogs so as that was 57 years ago we are all, as yourself, 76/77 so chances of older mates still around is slim.
Anyway good to hear from you.
Regards to all. Bill J
