Not like me to moan I know but have to have a rant now!

Just been on line to renew my home insurance. I always feel that I am wasting money when doing it because if unlucky enough to have a claim at any time I think it will be a fight judging by some of the stories you hear.

Anyway, did the old go compare a meercat and all that and got various quotes. Scrolling through them and one or two say 50 quid cashback. Sounds good to me! Click on go to their website only to find out that the 50 quid is added to the price so in effect you are giving them 50 quid for 60 days and then they give it you back. Nice little earner eh?

Should be laws against this kind of thing. Mad

Ah but did you know that the above company won't insure those in Liverpool? Not sure about my side of the river but that is discrimination. Lots of bad places around the country but some believe the hype about Merseyside which in my experience isn't true.

Just got my quotes in for car insurance............. variations from £646 to an accepted £298. OK. I'm not a kid any more & some don't like me........

Never had a claim in 60 years, It's a teeny Toyota, now at last I've got the mad streak out of my system, and the back seats are only used for dumping a waterproof on. (Unfortunately!)

When Meerkats checked lowest quote, my accepted company was quoted at £20 dearer and wanted more for legal cover courtesy car & protected no claim which are all included on my renewal notice. At least I don't have to agonise about who's going to get my money.

PS Brum........ Knew a Sheila once, it wasn't her wheels that were interesting.

The last time I got a renewal notice for car insurance, it had gone up considerably. I did an online comparison and found that my old company was prepared to offer it to me for less when I gave the details.

I phoned my company and said I could get a better deal and they said they couldn't match it. Who was it with they asked? YOU, I said! You couldn't make it up.

Gordon, depends on personal details & requirements I guess, but RIAS weren't in the top 6 for me. Best ? LV. & have been for 3 years. High no claim bonus (78.5%) helps.

TOUCHE' ! Apologies! Too easy to drift off theme................

Seems insurance companies have difficulty in one dept. knowing what another is up to.

My last renewal notice for Home & Contents was followed by a flier from the same lot seeking
my custom. I sent back some info. on line and, without further ado, I got another quote for forty-odd pounds less. I accepted it, thinking that some interchange might be made between departments. but I was welcomed to the fold in glowing terms. Hope their claims section is more efficient......

Could be if you approach an existing insurer with an enquiry as a new customer, you'll get a discounted deal. It's worth a try.

I have had my car insured with London Victoria now for well over 20 years, just had a renewal notice and it has gone up by about 80p in a year. Regardless of what the "Experts" say, loyalty does work.

You can scoff ! Pic reminds me of the first car I bought, a 1930 Morris Minor 2-seater. (austin 7, that is)
Got rid of the bike after a mate went through a stone wall whilst on leave from Catterick & R.Sigs. When I asked for a guarantee salesman said "When William Morris made this 22 years ago he guaranteed it for a year. What do you think I'm going to do?" Take the bike in PX I answered, he did. ,

It cost me £85, you could take it apart in a morning. When the flywheel came adrift and knackered the end of the crankshaft, I picked up a replacement engine for £3.50 from a scrap yard, haggled & got £1.50 back for the old one. Stuck out for it to be delivered, but the man was hard bitten. That cost me another five bob. A pal & I slipped it in one Saturday before mid-day. I sold it for £25 when I was called up. JO 3040 where are you now?

And an aside.... did you know BMW started up by making Austin 7's under license ? Called them "Dixie's", there's one in the Deutsche Museum in Munich.
