Hello,

I was after some help because I heard something the other day that I simply couldn't believe. I was working with a guy who probably a good 30 years ago was in the Army cadets. He told me that during this time he went to Germany on a bit of a jolly. One particular day he said he and his mates were hidden in the back of a 4 tonner by a regular Army driver and driven into a vast underground complex.

They stopped in one area and were let out where he reckons he saw many WW2 German tiger tanks in there tens maybe 30. They were allowed to play around on them inside and out.

Could this be possible? Does such a complex sound familiar?

Hi NR72 and welcome to the site. I think he may have been winding you up, no such complex exists, maybe he visited a German tank museum somewhere, and over the years his recollection of the visit has become distorted with time? Like most of us on here!! Mad Mad

Hello again, he seemed quite adamant, he's into his military history as I am and had no reason to dis believe him. I know there are only 6 Tigers in existence and only one in working order so if this place did exist it would be a truly exciting find. Thanks for the welcome and the swift replies.

Gordon whats that grid ref........ Cool

'ang about.

Secret bunker, Tiger tanks, this geezer didn't disappear in suspicious circumstances did he ? Suspect

Seriously though, NR72, putting a story like that, on a forum inhabited by ex-NATO veterans, was perhaps not the wisest move ! Very Happy

Lot of storys like that were doing the rounds post World war 2, and also into the 1960s when I was stationed BAOR. I heard about a story about an underground tank garage at 16 Sig Regt, Bradbury Barracks, with stored German Tiger tanks stored there, under the main drill square. But then, Bradbury Kaserne was a Wermacht tank unit barracks during Hitler ziet.

Barrack room myths, just like the mystical 'Long Stand', and the 'Bucket of Steam' from the QM Stores to clean vehicles..... did the rounds when I was out there in 1964. drunken Shocked

I can remember one occasion when my brother who served with me in A&SH decided to show off his drinking ability and stated to the guys who were sitting with him in the NAAFI that he could drink them all under the table. After four bottles of Tiger he was under the table literally and out for the count.Strong stuff if you were not used to it.

I always found that I got in to fights when I drank Amstel but, now that put things into perspective, I probably had a behaviour problem. bounce
