| Hi everyone,
My name is Richard, son of S/SGT Frank Kirkman, who served in various Units and Garrisons in Lubeck, Nuemunster, Kiel and Hamburg. Now my problem relates to locating the grave of a sister and brother who were both born in Lubeck, but sadly died within a few hours of their birth. When I made enquiries at the Achieves at Kew they politely said," if you could tell me in which garrison he served, I could help you". Similarly, when I make the same enquiry at The Royal Logistic Corps Museum, they asked about the unit my father served in. By the way, both of these Archivists were very understanding and clearly wanted to assist me, but they need more information.
His army records show that we lived in Lubeck (Tor Der Hoffnung), Nuemunster (33 Roon Strasse) and possibly Hamburg. There would have been some time in Married Quarters as well.
My father was in the Pioneer Corps up until 12/2/1948 and then he transferred to the RASC. This probably complicates matters. His army records indicate the following:
28 Quartering: 8/2/1949
BAOR Service Pool : 6/5/1949.
26 Quartering: ?/1950
Barrack Office in Kiel: 5/4/1951
Barrack Office in Hamburg: 1/1/1953
95 CRASC?
206 RASC?
Any assistance would greatly appreciated.
Richard

| Hi Kipper,
A bit of info from earlier research I did for a family member who had 'died in service' post WW2. (He was buried in CWGC Hamburg).
I now know from RASC Journals, that 206 Coy RASC were based at McLeod Barracks Neumunster, Germany during 1948.
Also from the list of army records you mention in your above message. The unit was called: 26 Quartering and Barrack Office BAOR. (The address I noted on a very recent document didn't include Kiel but Kiel will be about right).
Regards Alan | |
