While I was photographing war memorials in my area, I came across some from recent times too.
Last night it occurred to me that there may be someone on this site that might be able to fill in some detail. Their unit ,maybe or perhaps what happened to them ?
Does anyone from the Royal Corps of Signals (treading carefully there !), recognise any of the following names ?
Richard BRACEGIRDLE 14 Signals Regt (EW) 23 Dec 1988
Sgmn GENGE 7 Nov 1971 ("Killed by Irish Terrorists")
L/Cpl CALVIN 26 Apr 1986
Sgmn REECE 2 Aug 1979
Cpl DARLINGTON 10 Aug 1991
Thanks chaps
Brum.

| Hi Brum
Paul Genge was serving in 5 Airportable Bde HQ & Sig Sqn stationed at Kitchen Hill aka "Nicker Factory" Lurgan on a 4 month tour he was in civvies with another member of the unit off duty walking through Lurgan when ambushed
At this time myself and others were training in Shoeburyness we were the new unit 3 Inf Bde HQ & Sig Sqn formed up to take over on a two year tour as per 8 Inf Bde in Londonderry and 39 Inf Bde in Lisburn…on arrival in Feb 72 Lurgan was strictly off limits and those living in were not allowed out off duty for several months but then only to Portadown or Banbridge never Lurgan...in Jan 76 3 Inf Bde HQ & Sig Sqn moved to Mahon Road Camp Portadown
Regards Steve

| Thanks for that Steve, I'd forgotten you were ex-R Signals !
Paul Genge's grave is in the village where I live, he was only 18.
I'll enter the details on my spreadsheet. Thanks again.

Cheers, I rather hoped the one from 14 Signals might've flagged something up.

| 14 Signals were (are?) an electronic warfare regiment. Listening and doing nasty things to other radio users.
My brother was an officer with them at one time plus a couple of us from 20 Armd Bde were loaned to them once for an exercise.
It was a lot of fun jamming our troops plus joining a couple of American tank nets together without their knowledge using our rebro. It was very funny hearing two yanks arguing over who was Tango 21.
Rule one, never let the enemy know he is suceeding in causing you disruption. Should have told the yanks that!
