Message: Maresfield Barracks, Celle was divided in two; North Camp and South Camp either side of a main road. Each camp had a vehicle gate onto the main road and the two camps were connected by a footbridge over the main road.

| There could have been a Maresfield Barracks in Celle...7 Armd Div Sig Regt reformed from Hannover District Sig Sqn in Mar 49 recorded at Celle barracks unknown before moving to Caithness Barracks Verden in 1951 after the barracks were refurbished the 7 Div HQ were in nearby Shiel Barracks from Mar 49 Cheers Steve | |

| Gordon Recorded...1 Corps Signal Regiment reformed in UK 1950 moved to Harewood Barracks Herford then Maresfield Barracks Hereford 1952...Maresfield appears to be a new camp so the name could have been used elsewhere in Germany...need a reply from Ian Thompson Cheers Steve | |

| What you say is correct Steve.Maresfield was a new camp and 1(BR) Corps signal regiment moved in, in 1952..and is the camp described by Ian. There may well have been a Maresfield at Celle,as it is a very common name in the Corps.but two identical camps, one pre war and one post war?..I dont think so...

| Got to agree with Gordon on this one. Ian Thompson describes Maresfield Bks('s) Herford perfectly and those Bks were built by the British. It would be stretching coicidence to the limit to believe that there might have been a similar Bks in Celle built by the Germans pre WW2.

| Have been struggling to find the name of the camp/barracks in Celle the home to 7 Armd Div HQ & Sig Regt on reforming in Mar 49 and was hoping it was now confirmed...post WW2 units named the barracks when they moved in and Maresfield was the home of the Royal Signals when formed in 1920 Cheers Steve | |
