This is how I remember Ironside Baracks Scheuen, 79 onwards, bit of a grim place, but Celle was superb

This used to be my Backyard when I was still going to School. We used to play Football with some of the Soldiers at Ironside Bks. I used to live just down the Road in a place called Waldkater. I don't know what happened to Ironside Bks after they built the Freiherr von Fritsch Kaserne. Ironside used to be a Munition Factory during the War Days. Last time I, a few Years ago, I drove up to the Gate at von Fritsch Kaserne, what a sad Site. It was all shut down and starting to get overgrown. It was sad to see.

Not an RAF expert however can confirm HQ 84 Group RAF moved into Ironside Barracks on 7 Jun 45 and was their temporary accommodation until moving into Trenchard Barracks Celle

7. June 1945, that was way before my time. I moved to that area in 1963 when I was 12 years old. My Dad worked at Trenchard then. He was with the GSO at 633 MCTG RCT. He worked there from 1950 to 1984. There were different Units at Trenchard over the Years. I think the last one was the Royal Anglian Regiment, 2nd Battalion, before it all got shut down.

The RAF handed over Trenchard Barracks to the army and HQ Hannover District moved from Bad Rothenfelde on 15 Feb 48, Hannover District was formed from 7th Armoured and 5th Infantry Divisions a month earlier, 1 Mar 49 7th Armoured Division reformed in Trenchard Barracks and the HQ and Signal Regiment remained there until a move to Verden late 50/early 51, then a long list of units https://baor-locations.org/trenchardbks.aspx.html (needs updating)

Certainly lots of History there from Trenchard and Ironside. Celle has been a Garrison Town for many Decades, not so much anymore with all the Cutbacks today. Munster Lager, Bergen- Hohne, Fallingbostel were famous Military Places.

I served most of my National Service At Ironside Barracks, !957/1958
I was serving with the RAOC which was a part of 7th Armoured Brigade ( Desert Rats) We were a field Park ,7 OFP.
I enjoyed my time there, we had a great bunch of lads working with some guys from REME who looked after our transport. Probably not more than 150 persons served at the field Park. Don't suppose many of us left now.At the barracks we had a football pitch which was surrounded by an Athletics track. I played football for 7 OFP also Rugby for both the Hohne Barbarians. and the RAOC. Also I took part in Brigade athletics including cross country. We had both a Sargents and a Corporals club ( Jaboa Club) There was a Scottish infantry regiment as part of the 7th Armoured Brigade based in Celle along with 74 Locating Regiment. Barry Sturgeon

The regiment was Gordon Highlanders. I have since made contact with a friend stationed at 7OFP (Ironside Barracks), at the same time. We are both now in our 80's and hope to meet up again in the spring. looking forward to it.
