| During my service to qualify fo an LSGS you had to do 18 years sevice, later reduced to 15 I think. Your character had to be ex emplary. I think that Thermadone entries of one weeks loss of PUSP (put under stoppage of pay) would constitute an entry o your Company Conduct Sheet (AFB121). This document was destroyed after 2 years or on promotion to SSGT. At this rank you got a Regimental Conduct Sheet (AFB120). For a soldier below the rank of SSGT to incur a Regtl entry you had to be: a. Find the equivalent of 28 days pay. b. All detention. c. 14 days (or more) Restricition of prvalages ROPs. d. Reduction in Rank cting or Substantive. All the above coud only be awarded by your CO or above. Minor awards by your OC normally a Major but could also be Capt. This was authorised every year (Powers of Command) in Part 1 Orders. If your CO at your 15 year point wanted to award you the LSGC and you had a Regt Conduct sheet he could submit a plea of mittigation to his higher authority ie Brigade or District Commander in accordance with Queens Regs. Suppose all the above is boring some. But this site is all about memories. | |

During my Royal Signals service picked up two Regimental Entries as a Sig in 67 and as a LCpl in 71 as have a copy of my records but shows "Spent" after 5 years...looks like the army never destroyed anything! | Hi Shelldrake, Thats quite a lot of entries. At the time of eligibility your CO at the time obviously never thought it worth submitting a plea in mittigation.

| Hi Steve, I think the rehabilitation of offeners act was intrduced in 1970. At thei time certain offencecs military as well as civillian were considered spent after a set period, not all were 5 years , Spent did not mean they were deleated from your record but were Stamped as SPENT. Again your CO never submitted a plea. Personnaly if these offences were minor I would have thought he would have applied. Maybe he had a fear of his Brigade Commander or Distric GOC. You will never know. | |

Please not I no longer work for the Tax Office (WD) Yes you do, or at least I did when I left in 1980, although bizarrely my red book says I served 11 years 365 days. At that time it was a preserved pension which became payable (including all increases) at age 60. Mike

Cheers Steve Strange, my red book didn't mention boys service at all. Just the reckonable service from age 18.

| As said, You get a deferred pension which, at 60, becomes payable - I took mine out of the AFPS and invested it with clerical and medical which tripled my interest payments on it.... which hopefully will equate to more pennies at the payout time - and is index linked. Also have a war pension and service invalidity pension - nothing wrong with being a flid! | |

Should be the first entry on page 4. and the back page should show the time served, lumped in with your regular service.either on completion of your service or transfer to the RAR. It amused me to see so many upset brats when their LS & GC was turned down for lack of time served. They (like me) thought their three years at AAS counted ,,as time served there, counted towards GC badges... Service to qualify for the LS & GC started at 17.5 |

| You now have to write your own plea of mitigation and TBH IMHO the medal has now been downgraded as such by people doing just that! Why can't they just face up to fact that if you fcuk up and do time, ROPs, fined etc you ain't going to get an LS&GC. A guy in my own Regt got one when he was a WO2 after a couple of years wrangling to get it as he'd fcuked up as youngster by falling asleep in a sanger in NI, anyway he managed to get it but we called it the Long Sleep & Got Caught medal!!! | |
