| I served in Berlin (1976-78) with the RMP,I did "Check Point Charlie". I would suggest the still photograph is early 60 is'. The uniform, from the "cut" appears to be VOPO, that is East German. | |

I agree with Whitehorse. The car looks like a Merc of early 60s vintage. The uniform looks too smart to be Russian. | |

| Since checkpoint charlie was established in 1961 the in/out processing on the eastern side was always handled by East German border guards. Soviet soldiers on border duty you could only see at the checkpoints Alpha and Bravo and Glienicker Bridge on the way to and from Potsdam for Military Liaison Mission personal.

I followed this advice to Iain McGregors book and purchased a copy.
After reading the first 40 pages
(reading takes some time since it is a foreign language for me)
it seems to me McGregor is wrong in some points.
After finish the book I will come back.
