Hello Everyone! I found this forum by accident today and decided to join after reading some nice stories.
I have just returned (yesterday) from a trip to Celle for a weekend reunion of Naafi staff who worked in Celle Naafi Families Shop between 1970 and late 80's and we had a great time strolling down memory lane together.
We were quite surprised at how much things had changed, the Naafi shop which was situated at the river bridge in town no longer exists - the main body of the original building has been restored and is now a pharmacy, but the old foodhall and butchery departments have been pulled down and replaced by very modern office blocks and a bank. The pharmacy owner was kind enough to let us go in and have a look around, and I was pleased to see that the layout of the 'Gifts & Durables' dept was pretty much the same, although it looked a million times better than when I worked there. They had also taken great care to restore the beautiful fresco on the ceiling at the top of the stairs which led into the department. The shop was relocated to Wasa Strasse next to Nordfeld married quarters in around 1988.
We also went up to Trenchard barracks to see where we had lived in the Naafi hostel (one of the blocks facing out onto Sprenger Strasse) next to the parade ground. We obviously weren't allowed on camp but we had a good look through the gates and fence, which brought back lots of memories for us all. Especially of all the mad parties we used to throw and got away with murder considering we were right next to the RMP block.

I'm from Celle and I know the NAFFI located to the Aller Brigde as well. That's now more than 25 years ago! Everything haved changed!

Hi Oliver, would you Know anyone called Jack Walls RASC/RCT. He married a girl from Celle in the late 50s early 60s not sure if he retired there.

Greetings and welcome. My memories of the NAAFi lasses go back to boys service, but I do remember the gilrs at our NAAFI in Herford 1952, lyle stockings and great hairdo's.

No, sorry jerry! Was slightly a bit before my times. I'm only 43 years old! Had a look at the telephone book, but no "Jack Walls" around Celle area. But this doesn't mean a lot. Today it's not obligatory to have a entry in that.
