Right no doubt most of these tashish have adorned the face of many a squaddie ...BUT why oh why did a few or is that a lot of senior NCOs have those stupid TUFTS of hair on their cheeks Question

we shave every day in the army agreed ... so how were they able to get away with those stupid bits of hair Question

"Yes" to the tufts. I think it was an area that Queen's regs didn't cover, (God they should get a bloody life !).

Getting away from mo's..In the British Army only Pioneers, i.e. Royal Pioneer Corps or Pioneer platoons in Infantry Battalions
could grow a beard right?

Now of course the SAS wear the beards in Afghanistan as do Aussie SAS and other Special Forces.
Footnote: Our Commando Regt is actually an Infantry Regt, not Marines like UK, we have no Marines!

Of course the Australian SAS Regt is a dedicated Regt. alien

One of the perks of being posted to CFS Alert was the privilege of growing a beard except the cooks. We were the first cooks to be allowed to. Found out that I could grow a decent beard, so on pensioning off I've have had one since.

Man!!!! That's been 29 years.
