We lived in the Bothfeld Kaserne for a short while in 1948 when it was known as 125 Transit Camp. We later moved into quarters in Spilker Strasse, Klefeld. My sister was christened in the Bothfeld church in June 1948.

Olli – homann > lost place > barracks Bothfeld 2008 / Freiherr von Fritsch Kaserne tabular history: 1937-1939 as artillery barracks built 1939-1945: flak-Regiment 7, flak master battery 1943: almost completely destroyed in air raid! 1945-1959, May 15: the barracks site was inhabited by homeless foreigners 1960-2000: down June 1960 the Bundeswehr used the barracks site again militarily 2000: abandoned site! By wanton destruction, the buildings are unfortunately all in a bad state. The terrain while attempted to secure, which is pretty difficult but of course on the size. It was started to renew parts, but also there was before the vandalism not just made…

Bothfeld Kaserne Hannover
Was called Wavell Barracks by Brit Forces and it housed 125 Transit Camp (handy for the airfield and rail traffic) - handed back 1956 it had previously been called General-Wever-Kaserne and run by the Luftwaffe.

Old thread but well worth a reply.
The name Wavell was short lived having a barracks of the same name in Berlin.
Thanks to a forum member have had for some time have a copy of the following:
"Renaming of German Barracks – HQ BAOR letter dated 16 Feb 46"
Hannover *Scharnhorst Kaserne – Edinburgh Barracks (North) Prince Albrecht Kaserne – London Barracks (South)
*also known as General Wever Kaserne – Dempsey later Wavell Barracks
Both barracks were side by side in the area of Bothfeld
