Hi there,
Uelzen about 60 kms south of Luneburg ?
If so 1420H did an exercise "kings Ride" it was an armoured exercise using SIMFIRE.
We drove through the town to get to the rail head and left on route to the Bergen / Belsen sidings........close to Hohne,it was about 1982.

Pinky

You are in the right geographical area

As we have discussed elsewhere oon the site dont think there was ever a permanent British Garrison in the town Munsterlager, Hohne and RAF Fassberg being the nearest

Hi there,
I think you should spell it UELZEN.
After the exercise many chaps from my Regiment returned to sample the town's delights, three of whom married Uelzen girls...........
One fella is still there !!
A great night out in the 82-84 yrs, we had a spot of bother with the Engineers, that was cleared up once it became obvious to them that there was 'enough' to go around. lol.
2 Sqn RCT frequented the town before leaving M/Lager for the Rhine area about '81.
A really nice old German town.

2 Sqn and 12 Sqn left Munsterlager in 1983, not quite sure where 2 went but 12 went to Minden. The Engineers, also in the same camp were 26 and 32 armoured. Although some of the lads did have the odd sherbert in Uelzen, most went to Luneburg. Bigger place , more frauleins. Wink Wink
