| Hi there, i have many photos of my grandfather and other men in front of the Ripon Baracks i am assuming in the early 50s. What i don't completely understand from this time is that my grandfather was from Yugoslavia and my grandmother was German. It may be that he moved to Germany at some stage prior. My grandfather always spoke of being in the british army but we didn't really understand why. Can anyone connect the dots for me.

Take a look here
https://bfg-locations.editboard.com/f172-mso-and-gso Thanks for that. It was very helpful. Do you know if there is a way to find what his particular role was? i have photos of him a the gate but also standing in front of large trucks (transport vehicles i am assuming) I also have images of him working on a train line which i know has something to do with a ship used for navy training but this may have been after his time with the BOAR.

| Hi,
I would agree with Gordon, as I was attached to 1 Corps Defence Conpany a MSO Unit of Yugoslav's. We moved into Ripon Barracks towards the end of 1952. Previously the Unit was stationed in Bad Oyenhausan.
If indeed the Unit was MSO, I certainly knew Your Grandfather.
Hope this information helps.

Geoff Smith (REME) Geoff, This is a little off subject but I notice that you have "Ellesmere" in your Battle Honours. Would that be the one in Shropshire ? brum

| If that pistol in the hand of the center man is for real, he deffinetly has no sense of safe handling. Finger on trigger and pointed at the man on his right. Also I don't imagine pistols were an issued item to these troops. | |

| I can't spell MSO. We called them the Black Watch because of their dark uniforms. | |
