Ex Scaleys !

Fibre optic broadband having reached this quiet little backwater of ours, we went for BT Infinity.

Two blokes duly arrived on our doorstep last week to do the deed and it turned out they were both ( gasp !) ex-R Signals.

I let them in anyway and as well as the usual army type banter they were telling me that BT are recruiting ex-Scaleys to train them up.

I was wondering, (make allowances for my age), does the army use fibre optic broadband now ?

No idea. I still wonder if they use email instead of teleprinters? Secure email I suppose!

Johnboy:- When i was an apprentice.On a progress test we were asked to draw and explain a simple telephone system.I drew the two tins and got full marks,also got a warning not to do it on the official trade test.

Telemechs, remember them alright. There were two other types - Linemechs & Radiomechs. They were the 'A' Trades, we as OWL's were 'B' Trades as you know, in addition to OKB's. Think we had the more active lessons in the field at harrogate. The Mechs were nearly always in the classroom.

The Telemech you mention was a Telegraph Mechanic..Later Tech
The latest Telemech was a Telecommunications Mechanic

They had completely different job descriptions
