| CARNARVON BARRACKS, Lohausen, Düsseldorf, BAOR 4. The 19th Field Regiment Royal Artillery was stationed there 1947 – 1954 when they moved out to Korea. I was stationed there 1952- 1954. The regiment was composed of the following units RHQ Troop and 25, 28 and 67 batteries equipped with 25pdr towed gun howitzers. On attachment to the regiment was a Royal Signals Troop. Also housed by the regiment was an RAF detachment that operated Radar/wireless equipment on Düsseldorf Airport. On entering the main gate the Guardroom was on your right and in front of you a grass covered square on which there stood a flagpole. To your left was HQ Block. A section of the flooring on the 1sy floor outside the CO’s office was polished marble which was a skating ring for ammo boots and proved the undoing of many on CO’s orders marching a double time. Our leisure time was mostly at Nordpark going either the NAAFI Centre or the ARMY Kinema as the exchange rate between the BAFSV we were paid in and the DM was very poor. Dave Rich

| Remember it well, Dave.
Used to go to Youth club up in one of the lofts at Carnarvon barracks in the early 90's, had an air rifle range and skate ramp but we just used to shoot each other across the ramp! Looking back i cant believe no one lost an eye! | |
