| I was stationed at Wesendorf, the end of the world to the wives, but Regimentally it was the ideal posting, away from all the seductions that soldiers love,we could go and train at Troop,Sqn,or Regtl level whenever we liked.I think then we were top guns.Life was livened up by border patrols,Mess life was great, the ladies got a bus to the NAAFI in Celle once a week, and we had rations from the cookhouse to supplement our eatings. The winters I remember, they where bitter, remember going out on autumn sales lst Oct,thick snow on the ground - Brrrrrrr! Loved it in Wesendorf. ---- Don | |

Wesendorf is about 35km east of Celle, the road from Celle passes through that haven of execises Hohne. I was there once or twice on exercise, but know little else about it. Paul. | |

| Bexy,Paul has located,Hohne however is further north.Wesendorf is just that,a "Dorf",and at that time just a few houses. We were really isolated there, but as I said,WE made life great. You will have a job to find it on the map!We lived in a MQ that was previously Barrcks, but had been made very comfortable and cozy.We even had a maid from the village,Annaliese, she was very good with our kids and the wife really missed her when we left.Wesendorf camp was well spread out on the ground, and had its own airfield where the Adjt loved to hold Saturday Adjts Parades. The winters in those days were extreme,I remember one winter the vehicles had to be started up every two hours,25-30C minus.Rumour had it that the ruined part of the Camp was haunted(near the airfield)I remember as Guard Commander having to walk the area at night with sentries who were scared out of their wits.I did'nt enjoy it either - cold shivers still go down my spine when I think about it!!! ---- Don | |

| soprano, WESENDORF was the place I'm talking about.Forget to say one of the attractions near Wesendorf was the mushroom cafe, very popular with us Brits. It looked like a red and white toadstool from a distance.I visited Wesendorf a few years ago,its now occupied by the Bundeswehr. ---- Don | |
