hello i got this with some other items from our local auction sales room . i thought id like it too go too some one whos interested in that part of history so here go BAOR Plaque with INSCRIPTION Smuts Barracks Berlin, 1971 the plaque is hand engraved has the words " WO.S & sgt mess smutts bks berlin 1971 showing a pic of branenberg gate .( BAOR ( British Army of the Rhine ) Plaque as can be hung on the wall with INSCRIPTION Smuts Barracks Berlin, 1971 very rare and lovely item this is a one off item never to be seen again, . bit of history : . Smuts barracks no longer there has been torn drown its a shopping centre now,
Smuts Barracks, named after Field Marshal Jan Christiaan Smuts, OM, CH, PC, ED, KC, FRS, was situated on Wilhelmstraße, During the Nazi period, this barracks was home to a SS Panzer Unit,in the Spandau district of Berlin, was where the British armoured contingent was based. the Plaque is in great condtion hand crafted too british army history which is no longer there, The last unit to be based here was C Squadron, The 14th/20th King Husars (1989-1993).

Hi there,
I was stationed in Smuts Bks from Feb 1985 to Feb 1988. Great posting......however you fail to mention the other units in there, there were some RAEC and the 38 Field Sqn R.E.
I also know Smuts Bks is still standing, pretty much how it was left in the 90's, Spandau Prison has become a shopping centre !!
