Royal Tank Regiment still has "gunfire" on Cambrai day, 20th November.

Nice to see tradition is still being celebrated by the Johnny cum Lately regiments !

In Minden Bty we had roses on Aug 1st to remind us of when we helped the Krauts to whup
the Frogs in 1759. I reckon a cup of hot cocoa & rum would have gone down better.

In the QRIH we had gunfire on Paddy's Day and Balaklava Day. Served by senior nco's at 0800. To the best of my knowledge the tradition has continued into the QRH.

I hope the tradition lives on. Altthough it must be said, I'm not hopeful.

I remember 5th Skins going mental on Paddys day, happy days.

I've attended a Paddy's Day celebration at Athlone Lines so I know that still goes on. Balaklava Day will always be there too.

I never experience gunfire with the QRIH but maybe I was on duty those days. My first two regiments were artillery and they did have gunfire Xmas morning, and a dammed good lunch time party as well.
