22nd Armoured Brigade

Does anyone know anything about 22nd Armd Bde, part of 1 (UK) Div.
Can't find anything online.

Were they not based in Soltau up until the mid/late eighties?

Hello there Soprano,
I thought 7 Armd Bde were up at Soltau until about 1993. Whilst they were in Soltau, 22 Armd Bde were at Hohne. I can only presume that 22 Bde were given the chop in 1993 and HQ 7 Armd Bde took their position in Hohne. All I know is that 22 Bde fought during WWII, were disbanded and then brought back to life in the 70's?

When I was in 7 Armd Wksp ( 82-84) as a Coy Comd, HQ 22 Armd Bde was in Hohne and HQ 7 Armd Bde in Soltau. At that time I commanded MRG 7A in the field in support of 7 Armd Bde, MRG 7B supported 22 Armd Bde. I believe 22 Armd Bde was disbanded under "Options For Change" in the early 90's. HQ 7 Armd Bde then moved from Soltau to Hohne under the Garrison restructuring plan.

22 Armoured Brigade?? Never heard of them, I was in 20 Armd Bde in the early '70's

You are dead right it was 20 Armd Bde, age is starting to effect the brain cells.

Phil, I suggest you checkout 20 Armd Bde on the web and rename this topic.

Now then, 20 Armd Bde have never been anywhere out of the Detmold/Paderborn/Sennelager area for quite a while. They have certainly never been in Hohne. Please follow the link below and read page 293. I'm not cracking up! Not yet anyhow,

Page 80 clears all up. Problem solved. Funny though how the signals support is better documented in histroy that the brigade it supported!

ah, now that's interesting. The only Bde's I recall were, 20, 7, 12 (Gds) and 6.
