| While I was in Woffers I did have some contact with our US cousins. I was once in their camp which was about 30 Kilomters away. I was well recieved of course as I am sure they were showing off a bit as people sometimes do. I am remembering the name of this place as soundng like SCHOENINGIN or perhaps a bad pronounciation. It was also creditied as having one of the largest peices of scrap metal assembled in the world. Really. It could be seen though whatever the distance was from upper stories of our flats. As it was a massive ariel wish I could use if for my breaking digi channels it may have been dismanteled about the same time as Wolfenbuttle was handed over. There was a German armoured unit in the Wolfenbuttle area in my days 74-77. I remember watching them doing Engine and Main Gun demonstration removal replacement on thier Leapord Tank in the amount of time we would spend on a naffi break. Does anyone know what now opperates in Northhampton Barracks obvioulsy now renamed. Does anyone know the correct name for this US unit probably the equivalent of 225 Signal Squadron but really felt much more important. scarletman | |

| You were more than likely in SCHOENINGEN. It is about 33km east of Wolfenbuttel on Route 82.

Untidy Germans, now who would believe that?
And re shoeningen have had a look but the US must have took their metal and camp away.

| I was the Station Medical Officer at Wolfenbuttel 1974-76 during the time of the 17th/21st and then the 16th/5th Lancers as the Major Unit.
You are quite correct that the US Army was at Schoeningen and the unit was the equivalent of the British 225 Signal Squadron - both were also part of my practice.
