Barracks in Suchteln

In August 1945 my old Regt 3RTR moved into a camp in Suchteln having handed over their Comets and taken over a fleet of Churchill Crocodiles. They weren’t in Suchteln for long as six months later they packed their bags, handed over their Churchill’s and moved to Flensburg. I’ve heard on the grapevine that the name of the barracks might have been Hilsea but l know they’re in Veirsen, which isn’t far away to the South! Does anyone no any different?

They were under command 31st Armoured Brigade

28 Aug 45 – 3rd Battalion Royal Tank Regiment Royal Armoured Corps from 29th Armoured Brigade of 11th Armoured Division relieving 141st (The Buffs the East Kent Regiment) Royal Armoured Corps
Battalion Headquarters: Fleigerhorst (Airfield) Rotenburg, Landkreis Rotenburg
31 Aug 45 – Kaserne Johannisstraße Süchteln south-west of Krefeld, Stadtkreis Viersen
5 Oct 45 – redesignated 3rd Royal Tank Regiment
3 Feb 46 – Panzer/Grenzland Kaserne later Hereford Barracks Flensburg, Landkreis Flensburg
11 Mar 46 – 4th Armoured Brigade

Cannot find evidence of barracks today off Johannisstrasse, Süchteln however have a record for a Süchteln Kaserne for other units, so not Hilsea Barracks in Viersen recorded as a new build in the 1950’s, BTW Süchteln Kaserne was Main HQ 21st Army Group until moving to Bad Oeynhausen 3 Jun 45
