| Hello, On behalf of a colleague of mine, I am looking for more information (or even just leads to sources) about this B.A.O.R. Tug of War medal. I have very little information to go on- he got the medal from an old friend of his whose antique shop was closing down. No family connections here. Any help? Thanks | |

| According to BAOR history, it was the occupation of the Rhineland after the 1st and 2nd World Wars. The only Army Divisions there in 1929 are listed as follows:-
1st Rhine Brigade:= 2nd Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers Nov 1926-Oct 1929 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2nd Rhine Brigade:= 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers 1926-1929 2nd Battalion Leicestershire Regiment 1927-1929 2nd Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment 1926-1929
Commander in Chief 1927-1929 General Sir William Thwaites.
Hopes this helps in your quest to find the the answerer.
It sounds to me that as the Rhine occupation was coming to an end the army were trying anything to relieve the boredom.
Regards, Bandsman. | |
