Subject: Data enquiry: evolution of troop strengths 9/12/2022, 08:59
Dear forum members,
for a research project I am searching for data/reports on the number of British troops in Germany at each location on a yearly basis (period 1980-2000). I found such information for the US troops stationed in Germany in the US Base Structure Reports indicating military and civilian personnel, area of the site, ... on a yearly basis (the reports are retrievable at Defense Technical Information Center - cannot post link as new forum member). Do you know of similar reports for the British troops?
I am very thankful for any hint!
Best regards!

And your Enquiry ought to be addressed to our Ministry of Defence - where the policies were/are made; rather than grabbing a wild-stab-in-the-dark guestimate from this civilian volunteer forum.

Thank you for your very kind response. Sometimes the crowd is more intelligent than the MOD. Especially when dealing with information from the past.

The Brits have a procedure for asking for this info and for supplying the info/statistics to you - in a reliable format; in exchange for your identity (perhaps).
Even those of us who are veterans of the organisation (and may have assisted in compilation of some of the data) have to supply verifiable identity and may have to pay a search fee to access the archived data. But an FOI request may be denied and it is the relevant Govt Office that listens to your justification and gives a reason for any refusal.
