| Hi Jim, Looks like the old site may have a reprieve! According to Tony Fox over on the Windsor Society, his reliable contacts in Hamm explained, "Windsor Boys' School still stands! The Stadt want to relocate the Feuerwehr there as it needs a larger site. However, the good residents of Soesterstraße (and others nearby) are objecting because of the potential noise factor. He also mentions that the front field hosts a small circus every year and that BMW have shown interest in part of the WBS grounds!" | |

| I was going to drop in on my way back from Berlin to get the last photos but as it doesn't seem likely that the school will be demolished after all I didn't bother. My old dorm is the 7th window along(not including the door) on the bottom floor on the picture labeled Block 3 on the Brixton Camp/WBS page. | |

| Hi Steve,
Remind us, was that Balmoral or Edinburgh House?

| Block 3 would be the Balmoral and Edinburgh houses. Ground floor had a couple of apartments for the teachers and two "Annexes", one for Balmoral and one for Edinburgh which consisted of about 3 Dorms plus a bathroom for each house. The first floor was entirely Balmoral, the 2nd floor was Edinburgh house. The 3rd floor was the sickbay and I think another teacher apartment. In the cellar was a snooker table and the Hamm Rhinos Rugby Club bar. This block differed from the other 2 residential blocks in that the bathrooms were at the two ends of the blocks. | |

Was the layout different due to the damage sustained during the war?

| I heard that the Balmoral block did have some wartime damage which resulted in the different position of the bathrooms. Balmoral and Edinburgh also had the fewest pupils which was why the sick bay etc was located in that block. I remember the walls in the main block having recesses for rifle racks.

Yeah they all had them as far as I know, I was in the first one in Marlborough House circa 1969-71!

| Apparently, a British plane was bought down over Hamm during the war and crashed into Edinbugh/Balmoral, and took out the whole centre section of the building. I saw a photo of the damage some years ago. Caernarvon 61/62 | |

| I was in Hamm at the beginning of July, the only remaining buildings of WBS are the church and the old dining hall(now seemingly abandonded). The whole side where the main block was is now dominated by a large BMW dealership, the rest consists of typical industrial estate businesses. | |
