September 1966 to July 1969. At that time the Regiment was made up of 5 Field Squadron, 25 Field Squadron and 44 Field Park Squadron. I was a member of 3 Troop, 25 Field Squadron along with Ian 'Lawry' Lawrence, Anthony 'Benny' Bennet, 'Geordie' Richardson, 'Ginge' Walters, 'Streaky' Martin, 'Taff' Jones, Jack Dempsey, Andy Adams, Jock Burt, Paul Panter, Pat 'Knuckle' McAlinden, Ron Linaker, Tony Young, Ken Reader, Harry Page, Phil Whitworth, 'Taff' Kemp, Jock McFarlane, John Thorogood, Bill Cummings, and Bob Denis to name a few. Here's hoping everyone is still out there enjoying themselves. 'Monty' Montgomery

Dont know if you still keep an eye on your messages but it was nice to see some of those names, my name is paul fairclough and I was in two troop Cpl for my sins, Ive tried to find Bill Cummings Harry Page and Ossy Peters to find out how everyone is doing. if this rings any bells with someone, you might remember me better as I was a ski nut with Harry Page or in the summer I was A tug opp for the bridging crews,

Slightly off topic....
I was always struck by the distinct difference in architecture between Paderborn and Soest, especially when the two cities just really were not that far apart and are approximately the same age.
The architecture in Paderborn always struck me as quite Saxon, actually, whereas the architecture in Soest was Romanesque.
The two cathedrals are markedly different. In fact, the Paderborn cathedral is almost Dutch in appearance. The St. Patroklli in Soest is wonderful but not particularly unique (Soesters, of course, will disagree vehemently!).
Even the ordinary architecture of houses etc is markedly different between the two cities. Soest is full of half-timbered little houses and Paderborn, while it has such half-timbered houses as well, are 'differerent'....switch one for the other and it would stick out like a sore thumb in it's 'adopted' city.
Not sure why there was such a difference. The period architecture of Soest versus Iserlohn, for instance, was no where near as different.

Was at Paderborn from 9/66 to 7/68 and was the Royal Signals Tech, recognise some of the names including Jock Burt and Ossie Peters. Have memories of being sent to Detmold in the back of a Humber Pig for being drunk on parade, with Brian Spruce?
Researching for my book brought me here.

Would that have been some sort of Scaley Field Punishment ?

Hi magicpyggie and welcome to the Site. It would appear that you have more cap badges than Monty.

Hi Shelldrake,
Enrolled in Royal Signals TA in Jan 65, so 24030907, then transferred into Regulars, offered transfer to REME due to Ockenden Report, and left as sergeant in 1974. Tried the Royal Observer Corps, boring, and re-enlisted into Int Corps TA, did five years. So yes, one more than Monty.
