welcome
Have you found the discusion on the BAOR Ambulance trains? (Go to Regiments/Corps heading in this Forum, then Corps, then RCT)
You might be able to add a little to the history of the coaches especially the kitchen cars

| An empty tummy lost a lot of arguments with a cook.
A hot meal at the end of a crapy day made for a happy soldier.

Despite comments to the contrary, my experience of British Army Cooks (ACC now RLC) has always been favourable. Be it in a Cookhouse, Mess (where I have had some really excellent Mess Dinners) or in the field on Compo. _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

| Despite all the horror stories one hears about "Army cooks" I must say as a teenager whenever we attended some function (Dominion Day (back then -- long since renamed "Canada Day", which always sounds too corporate to me) barbeque or some anniversary or something), we were always treated to some superb food. Nothing fancy, just your basic meat and potatoes sort of fare, but delicious and well-prepared.
And it was clear the cooks took pride in their work and the presentation. You don't starve in the Army, that's for sure!

| 'Regimental Cooks' were a thing of National Service Days really, so may be late 1960's maybe
ACC Chefs wore (and RLC still do) the headress of unit attached to, but with own badge. _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

| The ACC cooks at AAS Harrogate were the pits..There was not much improvement when civilian caterers took over.At 7 Sigs they were good as were the crowd at Blandford. But for catering RAF Changi took a lot of beating, even with a couple of ACC cooks.. |

| There are always good ones and bad ones in all trades in the Army. The trouble is the ACC were always on 'test'!
No one can remember the rubbish Clericals or Regimental role or maybe the Reme Fitters who bodged your transport.
When was the last time you Quality Controlled day in and out a persons work. Because thats what we do when eating our food!
