Did 654 Sqn, or a flight of the sqn, use Harewood Barracks as a base?

| have just returned from a short weekend in wales,[xmass presents delivered],computer fault fixed, now down to some work, paul,as i said i first became involved with army aviation in 1971 iwas posted to 655 sqn in detmold,i personaly dont remember a sqn at harewood bks,the avn flt/sqn for hq 1 br corps was for some reason stationed at detmold, any flt at harewood bks could have been the rac regiments air troop, there is a google book[books.google.co.uk/boo...&9=&f=true] ihope that gets you there, please do not take what is in this book,or indeed my answer as definitive, some of the aviation regiments dates of formation are a bit iffy.if still not satisfied the curator at the army flying museam may be of more help, dave. | |

| Thanks Dave. I know you told me that before, but I was hoping that another AAC member (or attached) would pick it up.
I think I will have a cravk at the AAC Museum, although I tried once before and got nowhere, not even a reply.
Would you have another try at sending the link to the book again please, or just the title, and i wil take it from there.

| It's a long time since anything was posted regarding this subject, it may have been answered by now. There was a flight of souix's operating out of Herford, Harewood barracks. I served as an aircraft tech with them. Posted to BFPO 15, I joined the independent air squadron administered and under the control of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards in Sept 1972. RSDG's moved May 1973 and The 14/20th Kings Hussars occupied the barracks, they controlled and administered the independent air squadron until they moved in 1976. Their place at Harewood barracks was occupied by 1st Royal Tank Regt and according to my service records I was taken onto the strength of 654 AAC sqn LAD from May 1976 to Sept 1976, when I was posted to RAF wittering. I can find very little information with regard to the independent air sqn's as they are not really mentioned in any AAC records and if anyone can point me towards other sources I would be gratefull. | |
