Subject: Seeking information about Dusseldorf or Lohausen 3/10/2007, 14:13
Hello, I'm afraid I'm after information, rather than supplying it. My father was Colonel James Alan Overton, stationed at Dusseldorf in the 1950s. I remember snippets, including living in the suburb of Lohausen, but I'd really like to find out anything about the area or activities. I have a few photos of Lohausen but that's about it, plus memories. My father died in 1980 and I've only belatedly become interested in these things. Any tiny bit of information would be appreciated. Cheers, Max Overton

I didn't actually get to Dusseldorf until 67 and at that time most of the main activity centered around the airport, Rhine Area, Rhine Center and Nordpark, main barracks being Caernarvon Barracks, (this was HQ Rhine Area) Rhine Area consisted of lots of small detachments and some Larger such as 101 Provost Coy, we had det from Int Corps, RE Postal, US Postal, 43 Mov Con RCT as well as many other little detachments a sort of mish mash

British Pathe News have newsreel of Trooping the Colour in Düsseldorf:
you may have to log in to their site to see the film (and stills) but there is much material there to browse over a couple of days!

Great clip
Pretty sure this is the formation of 4th Guards Brigade Group in May 50, prior to this the brigade was known as 4th Infantry Brigade Group formed from 160th Infantry Brigade of the 53rd (Welsh) Infantry Division on the formation of 2nd Infantry Division in Apr 47
The British Army in their wisdom also had 4th Armoured Brigade at the same time until its disbandment Mar 48
The 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards were in Bradbury Barracks Krefeld, not mentioned but the last few stills shows the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards who were in Anglesey Barracks Wuppertal at this time
Best regards Steve
